The minute this book at my doorstep, I immediately picked it up and started reading it! I am a little over halfway through and have been on an emotional roller coaster. From page one the atmosphere has taken me all the way back to ancient Egypt and immersed me in Cleopatraโs life of politics, friendships, motherhood, and so much more. Plus the way the story is told from Cleopatraโs point of view, as if she is sitting across a table from you as she reflects on her past life, makes it even more achingly real.
๐งI have also been able to alternate back-and-forth between the audio and physical book. Adjoa Andoh gives a stunning performance in this reimagining of Cleopatra and her life. Andoh is a must-listen narrator. Her stellar vocal versatility, effortless immersion into ancient worlds, and deep character development are on full display.

Historical Fiction
Reclaiming the Narrative
Atmosphere
Ancient Egypt
YOU KNOW MY NAME, BUT YOU DO NOT KNOW ME.
Your historians call me seductress, but I was ever in loveโs thrall.
Your playwrights speak of witchcraft, but my talents came from the gods themselves.
Your poets sing of my bloodlust, but I was always protecting my children.
How wilfully they refuse to concede that a woman could be powerful, strategic, and divinely blessed to rule.
Death will silence me no longer.
This is not the story of how I died. But how I lived.
